Alex Fitzpatrick perfectly summarized his 7-over 77 in the final round at The Open.
“It was crap. No two ways about it,” he told reporters on Sunday at Royal Birkdale. “My putting was woeful. I thought some of the pins yesterday were terrible, just brutally honest. And, yeah, mixed with me not playing very good at all, that’s what it is.”
Fitzpatrick said he’ll play in the Wyndham Championship in August but plans to skip the 3M Open and the Rocket Classic.
“Went to school nearby,” said the Wake Forest grad. “Excited for the event, but more excited for two weeks off.”
Since joining the Tour in April, the younger brother of Matt Fitzpatrick has collected five T-10 finishes.
The 27-year-old Fitzpatrick said he was frustrated but wouldn’t let it carry over the rest of the season.
“I’ll go home, and I’ll be upset or disappointed for another hour or so, and I think it will kick in again of just how crazy this year has been,” he said.
