Anthropic a depășit OpenAI la venituri și a devenit cea mai mare companie de inteligență artificială din lume

Concomitent, și valoarea sa a crescut masiv în ultimele luni. Business Insider a scris marți că societatea a primit oferte din partea unor fonduri de capital de risc care voiau să investească în companie la o valoare de 800 de miliarde de dolari.

În februarie, Anthropic a strâns 30 de miliarde de dolari de la investitori la o valoare de 380 de miliarde de dolari.

Dublarea valorii în două luni

Dublarea valorii vine după ce cererea pentru modelul său Claude s-a accelerat în aces an. Dacă anul trecut compania avea venituri de 9 miliarde de dolari, în acest an estmarea este de 30 de miliarde.

Anthropic a poziționat Claude în special pe partea de programare și pe serviciile aduse corporațiilor.

Modelul său a dus recent la evaporarea de pe burse a o mie de miliarde de dolari din valoarea companiilor software, investitorii fiind îngrijorați că produsele acestora vor fi înlocuite de AI.

Recent, compania a lansat Claude Mythos, un model destinat securității cibernetice care poate descoperi vulnerabilități în sistemele de securitate.

OpenAI a declanșat mania privind inteligența artificială prin lansarea ChatGPT. Recent însă compania a început să vireze către atacarea pieței de business, vizată deja de Anthropic, în dauna celei a consumatorilor obișnuiți.

„Ai ChatGPT, o afacere cu un miliard de utilizatori care crește cu 50-100% pe an, și totuși de ce mai vorbești despre sectorul enterprise și programare?”, a spus unul dintre primii investitori ai OpenAI, citat de Financial Times.

OpenAI vrea să introducă reclame în ChatGPT, atacând astfel o piață dominată de Google.

„Este o companie extrem de neconcentrată”, punctează acesta.

Finanțare de 122 de miliarde de dolari pentru OpenAI

Conducerea OpenAI este optimistă, având în vedere că a reușit deja să repoziționeze compania de mai multe ori.

Directorul executiv Sam Altman tocmai a obținut luna trecută 122 de miliarde de dolari de la peste 25 de investitori de prim rang, printre care SoftBank, Amazon, Nvidia, Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital și Thrive Capital.

Totuși, compania a fost cuprinsă în mai multe turbulențe.

În 2023, Altman era concediat de OpenAI sub acuzația că a mințit cu privire la capabilitățile AI, pentru ca ulterior să ajungă înapoi la companie într-o adevărată telenovelă.

Acuzații de manipulare a cifrelor

Denise Dresser, noul director de venituri al OpenAI, a acuzat Anthropic că și-a supraevaluat veniturile „cu aproximativ 8 miliarde de dolari” prin „majorarea cotei (de venituri) cu Amazon și Google”, într-o notă adresată personalului duminică.

Ambele companii susțin că utilizează practici contabile standard.

Anthropic „recunoaște veniturile brute din vânzări prin intermediul partenerilor, deoarece este principalul participant la tranzacție, iar partenerii săi de cloud sunt canalul de distribuție”, a declarat o persoană apropiată companiei.

Anthropic, mai bine condusă

Cele două companii pierd ambele miliarde de dolari în fiecare an, cheltuind agresiv pe puterea de calcul necesară pentru antrenarea și rularea modelelor AI.

Datele de pe piețele secundare care tranzacționează drepturi pentru acțiunile ambelor companii sugerează că cererea este mai mare pentru Anthropic și, pentru prima dată, cumpărătorii acordă un plus acesteia față de OpenAI.

OpenAI își păstrează în continuare avantajul în rândul consumatorilor simpli.

După ce și-a învins rivalii prin lansarea ChatGPT în noiembrie 2022, a catalizat crearea unei noi piețe pentru finanțarea centrelor de date, s-a transformat într-o întreprindere cu scop lucrativ și a alocat sute de miliarde pentru a-și asigura puterea de calcul.

Însă Altman a emis un „cod roșu” la sfârșitul anului trecut, implorând personalul să se concentreze pe activitatea principală.

Luna trecută, Fidji Simo, fostul șef al Instacart și CEO al aplicațiilor OpenAI, care se află în concediu medical, a îndemnat angajații să renunțe la „activitățile secundare”.

Lipsă de concentrare

Două săptămâni mai târziu, compania a cheltuit „câteva sute de milioane de dolari” pe emisiunea de discuții tehnologice TBPN.

Un director al OpenAI a spus că emisiunea nu era o activitate secundară, deoarece nu consumă resurse de calcul.

„Sincer, nu înțeleg, nu are niciun sens pentru mine”, a spus un investitor al OpenAI despre achiziția TBPN. „Este o distragere a atenției și mă irită”, a spus el.

De asemenea, investiția planificată de Disney de 1 miliard de dolari s-a evaporat odată cu închiderea de către OpenAI a serviciului de generare video Sora.

Anthropic s-a confruntat cu întreruperi și constrângeri de alimentare cu energie electrică.

Anthropic nu și-a dezvăluit planurile de a-și mări puterea de calcul, dar directorul financiar Krishna Rao a declarat luna aceasta că compania va adopta o „abordare disciplinată în ceea ce privește extinderea infrastructurii”.

Atenție pe Codex

OpenAI își realocă propriile resurse de calcul. Pe lângă renunțarea la Sora, a pus pe pauză și un chatbot „pentru adulți”.

În schimb, atenția sa s-a îndreptat către vânzarea instrumentului său de programare, Codex, către companii.

Mai multe persoane familiarizate cu strategia companiei au afirmat că instrumentul Codex ar putea, în cele din urmă, să aibă prioritate față de ChatGPT.

„Este pur și simplu o afacere cu marjă mult mai mare, iar mutarea resurselor de calcul de la consumatori la întreprinderi este o chestiune banală”, a declarat persoana care a lucrat la eforturile OpenAI de a accesa resurse de calcul.

„Compania făcea prea multe lucruri, avea prea multe pariuri. Este vorba despre reorientarea afacerii în jurul a câteva pariuri principale”, a spus un alt investitor important din grup. „Asta este. Nu poți, ca și companie, să concurezi pe 30 de fronturi diferite”, continuă acesta.

Comparații cu Netscape

Alții văd schimbările frecvente de abordare ca un semn de derivă strategică.

Jai Das, președintele firmei de investiții Sapphire Ventures, a descris OpenAI ca fiind „Netscape-ul AI-ului”, referindu-se la browserul de internet odată dominant, dar care a fost apoi depășit de Microsoft și achiziționat în final de AOL.

Das nu este investitor nici în OpenAI, nici în Anthropic.

Reprezentanții companiei spun că aceasta se bucură în continuare de sprijinul investitorilor, având în vedere că OpenAI tocmai a încheiat cea mai mare strângere de fonduri private din toate timpurile.

SpaceX intră pe turnantă

OpenAI a fost fondat de către Sam Altman – actualul său șef, și omul de afaceri Elon Musk în anul 2015.

În 2018, Musk a părăsit proiectul, dar recent a dat în judecată compania afirmând că aceasta s-a îndepărtat de la actul său fondator.

Musk și-a fondat propriul laborator de inteligență artificială numit xAI în anul 2023. În 2025, xAI a achiziționat X, fostul Twitter, deținut la rândul său de Musk.

La începutul acestui an, SpaceX – compania aerospațială a lui Musk – a fuzionat cu xAI, evaluând în acel moment SpaceX la o mie de miliarde de dolari, iar xAI la 250 de miliarde.

În prezent, SpaceX se pregătește să ajungă pe bursă la o evaluare de două mii de miliarde de dolari, tranzacție prin care urmează să strângă de la investitori 75 de miliarde de dolari.

În acest an vizează listarea pe bursă însă și OpenAi, și Anthropic.

Anthropic a fost înființată în anul 2021 de către frații Dario și Daniela Amodei, ambii foști membri ai OpenAI.

Între investitorii Anthropic se află giganții Amazon și Google.

Compania a fost recent scoasă din sistemele armatei SUA deoarece nu a dorit să modifice sistemele de siguranță la cererea Pentagonului.

Most US teens say TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat aren’t hurting (or helping) their mental health

Most teens in the United States say that Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat aren’t harming their mental health, though a slightly higher proportion report negative effects on their sleep and productivity, according to a new report from Pew Research. The report offers fresh insights into how teens perceive the effects of social media at a time when there are increasing calls to ban younger teens from social platforms altogether.

The report is based on a survey of 1,458 teens between the ages of 13 and 17. Teens were asked about their use of Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok and how those apps affect them. Pew also asked the teens’ parents to weigh in.

Relatively few teens reported negative mental health effects, with 9 percent of Snapchat and TikTok users and 11 percent of Instagram users saying they thought the services had hurt their mental health. More teens reported negative effects on sleep and productivity, however, especially when it comes to use of TikTok. Thirty-seven percent of teens said their use of the app had hurt their sleep and 29 percent reported that it had affected their productivity. Even so, the majority of teens responded that the apps had “neither helped nor hurt” their mental health, sleep or productivity.

A significant number of teens did say that social media apps had helped their friendships, particularly Snapchat. At the same time, the app had a “somewhat higher rate” of bullying and harassment compared with the other services.

While the self-reported data is hardly a definitive answer to whether social media is harming teens, the numbers do offer a somewhat different narrative than the one that lawmakers, regulators and other critics have used to pursue social media bans and civil litigation against major companies. Meta, Snap and TikTok are all facing lawsuits that claim the platforms have purposefully created addicting features and enabled other harms to teen users,

Perhaps unsurprisingly, when researchers surveyed those same teens’ parents, they had a more negative view of the apps’ impact on their children. About four in ten parents said that social media hurts their kids’ sleep and productivity and about a quarter thought it hurt their mental health. Forty-four percent of parents whose teens use TikTok said they thought their child was spending “too much” time in the app.

“The share of parents who say the same of Snapchat and Instagram is lower,” the researchers note. “But the same pattern continues for both, with parents being more likely than teens to describe their teens’ use of these sites as excessive.”

The report isn’t the first time Pew has polled teens on their relationship with social media. Last year, a separate report found that teens were becoming more worried about social media, though they were less likely to say they had been negatively impacted on a personal level.

The popularity of toilet paper over bidets, like the rest of the world, was due to a rather ignorant misunderstanding regarding the bidets at the French brothels the GIs visited overseas.

During World War Two, American soldiers encountered bidets for the first time — in French brothels.   The devices were kept for hygiene between clients.  GIs associated them with vice. That stuck.  When the soldiers came home, postwar construction boomed. Millions of bathrooms went up without bidet plumbing. The toilet paper industry filled the gap.

Deadspin | CJ Abrams, Nationals strive to stay hot in clash vs. Pirates

CJ Abrams continues to be at the heart of most of the positives thus far for the Washington Nationals.

He remains one of the hottest hitters in the majors for the Nationals, who will visit the Pittsburgh Pirates in the third contest of a four-game series on Wednesday night.

Abrams is hitting .356 with a 1.121 OPS, six home runs and 19 RBIs in 16 games this season. He is on pace for career highs in each of those categories.

Abrams will try to provide run support again when the Nationals send right-hander Jake Irvin (1-1, 7.07 ERA) to the mound on Wednesday.

Abrams collected three hits and two RBIs, including a home run, in Washington’s 5-4 win over Pittsburgh on Tuesday night. He would have scored an additional run had he not been thrown out at the plate on a great play from left field by Jake Mangum in the eighth inning.

The Nationals have won four of their past five games.

“There are a lot of positives with CJ’s game right now,” manager Blake Butera said. “The leadership stands out, the way he rallies the guys around him from all aspects … and he’s not afraid to go out there and make a play.”

Pittsburgh second baseman Brandon Lowe has been one of the top hitters in baseball as well this season.

Lowe became the first Pirate to record five RBIs in consecutive games since the RBI became an official statistic in 1920. He accomplished the feat Sunday against the Chicago Cubs and Monday against the Nationals.

Lowe homered in the second inning on Tuesday, but Pirates manager Don Kelly took some heat from fans later that night after his decision to pinch hit Nick Yorke for Lowe in the seventh with the bases loaded and one out and Pittsburgh trailing 5-4. Yorke worked the count to 3-1 against reliever Cionel Perez before grounding into an inning-ending double play.

“I thought it was the right move,” Lowe said. “if you take the personal out of it and look at it with a baseball mind, it was bases loaded, one out, lefty on the mound and lefty in the pen. (Yorke) sees lefties really well and doesn’t strike out against them. … If the ball was (hit) three feet one way or another, we’re having a completely different discussion about this.”

Irvin, who is 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA in two career starts against the Pirates, produced mixed results in his last outing Friday at Milwaukee. He pitched five innings and gave up three runs on just two hits but walked five batters and struck out five as the Nationals won 7-3.

The Pirates had not named a starter for Wednesday’s game, although right-hander Carmen Mlodzinski (0-0, 2.51 ERA) would be in line to pitch in the contest.

If Mlodzinski gets the nod, he’ll make his first career start against the Nationals. He has faced them as a reliever, going 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA in five career appearances.

Mlodzinski would be looking to build off his best start of the season last Friday against the Cubs. He pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings despite allowing six hits and three walks while striking out two in a no-decision in Pittsburgh’s 2-0 victory.

A fost cutremur in Vrancea, miercuri dimineata. Institutul National de Cercetare-Dezvoltare pentru Fizica Pamantului anunta ca la ora 5:53 a avut loc un seism cu magnitudinea de 3, 3 pe Richter, la o adancime de 125, 4 km.

De asemenea, cutremurul si-a facut simtita prezenta si in apropiere de urmatoarele zone: 48km S de Focsani, 61km S de Buzau, 64km E de Sfantu-Gheorghe, 74km E de Brasov, 90km NE de Ploiesti.

Seismul este unul dintre riscurile fata de care trebuie sa fim prudenti in mod permanent. Asigurarile sunt o modalitate de preventie, deoarece in baza lor putem primi despagubiri.

Mai exact, asigurarea PAD este cea care acopera pagubele produse de un cutremur, dar si de inundatii sau alunecari de teren, cu o contributie anuala de doar 50 de lei sau 130 de lei.

Despagubirile se vor oferi in urma situatii precum: incendii, trasnete, explozii,  furtuni, caderi de copaci sau corpuri, inundatii cauzate de tevi sparte sau un furt.

Conform legii, nerespectarea de catre persoanele fizice sau juridice a obligatiei de asigurare a locuintelor, in conditiile prevazute de lege, constituie o contraventie, si se sanctioneaza cu amenda de la 100 la 500 lei.

Un român de 14 ani a fost agresat de trei tineri într-un parc: a fost călcat pe cap de unul dintre ei

Incidentul s-ar fi petrecut pe 20 martie. Cazul este descris de Poliția din Germania ca fiind unul cu „scene incredibile”, potrivit presei locale. Adolescentul român se plimba cu bicicleta în parcul orașului în jurul orei 15:00.

Acesta a fost oprit forțat de trei tineri pe care nu îi cunoștea. Apoi, potrivit poliției, minorul a fost imobilizat și constrâns să se așeze la pământ. După aceea, unul dintre agresori și-a pus piciorul pe capul băiatului și a făcut o fotografie.

Poliția din Landshut a reușit între timp să identifice unul dintre presupușii făptași. Este vorba de un albanez de 15 ani din Landshut. Ceilalți doi agresori nu au fost încă identificați.
