  • Mauricio Pochettino makes nine changes from last Friday’s match against Australia – the most ever for the USMNT between two World Cup matches. The previous high of five came between the Germany and Iran matches at the 1998 FIFA World Cup.
  • Midfielder Weston McKennie and forward Ricardo Pepi are the two holdover starters from Friday’s match against Australia.
  • The Starting XI has an average age of 26 years, 200 days. It is the 10th youngest lineup the USMNT has deployed in a World Cup match and the youngest of the 2026 World Cup.
  • The Starting XI averages 39 caps overall and 22 in official competition.
  • The senior-most player in the lineup, Weston McKennie will captain the side for the fourth time. The LIttle Elm, Texas product is the 15th different player to captain the USMNT in a World Cup match and the second from the Lone Star State to do so, joining Clint Dempsey who wore the armband in all four matches at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
  • Defenders Mark McKenzie and Miles Robinson make their FIFA World Cup debuts. The duo are the only two starters to appear in the USA’s last match against Türkiye, with Robinson starting the match and McKenzie replacing him to begin the second half.
  • 2022 FIFA World Cup veterans Brenden Aaronson and Matt Turner earn their first appearances of this year’s World Cup.
  • Turner started all four matches for the USA in Qatar, joining Jimmy Douglas (1930) as just the second USMNT goalkeeper to earn two clean sheets in a single edition of the World Cup.
  • This marks only the second World Cup where two goalkeepers have appeared for the USMNT. The other came in 1998, with Kasey Keller playing the first two matches against Germany and Iran, before Brad Friedel closed out the tournament against Yugoslavia.
  • Aaronson, who came off the bench in all four matches in Qatar, leads the list of seven players collecting their first career World Cup start. He’s joined by Sebastian Berhalter, Mark McKenzie, Gio Reyna, Miles Robinson, Joe Scally and Auston Trusty.
  • After entering as a substitute in the previous two matches, today’s start marks Sebastian Berhalter’s third World Cup appearance, surpassing his father Gregg’s career total of two. The elder Berhalter started both knockout round matches against Mexico and Germany at the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
  • A veteran of the 2022 World Cup, Tim Weah earns his first start of this tournament and his sixth career World Cup appearance.
  • Ricardo Pepi starts back-to-back USMNT matches for the first time since the Concacaf Nations League quarterfinal series against Jamaica in November 2024. Pepi scored in both legs of the series, which were also his last two goals for the USA.
  • Nine starters have ties to four states in the northeastern United States: Aaronson (New Jersey), Berhalter (parents from New York and New Jersey), McKenzie (born in New York), Reyna (New York), Robinson (Massachusetts), Scally (New York), Trusty (Pennsylvania), Turner (New Jersey), Weah (New York).
  • All 11 players either played in Major League Soccer or developed through an MLS Academy: Matt Turner (New England Revolution), Auston Trusty (Philadelphia Union, Colorado Rapids), Gio Reyna (New York City FC Academy), Weston McKennie (FC Dallas Academy), Ricardo Pepi (FC Dallas), Brenden Aaronson (Philadelphia Union), Miles Robinson (Atlanta United, FC Cincinnati), Sebastian Berhalter (Columbus Crew, Austin FC, Vancouver Whitecaps), Tim Weah (New York Red Bulls Academy), Mark McKenzie (Philadelphia Union), Joe Scally (New York City FC).
