Recap: Spurs advance to WCF, Pistons force Game 7

That does it for a thrilling night of NBA Playoffs hoops! The Detroit Pistons tied up their series against the Cavaliers to give us a Game 7 on Sunday, while the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Timberwolves to advance to the Western Conference Finals.

What we know about Friday’s games:

  • Cade Cunningham and the Pistons force a Game 7 with a convincing 21-point win over Cleveland in Game 6. Game 7 in Detroit is set for Sunday on Prime Video, as the top-seeded Pistons get their fourth win facing elimination in the 2026 NBA Playoffs. Those four victories are the second-most all time by a No. 1 seed.
  • The Spurs advanced to the Western Conference Finals after handling the Wolves in their 30-point Game 6 victory. Stephon Castle (32 pts), De’Aaron Fox (21 pts) and Victor Wembanyama (19 pts) combined for 72 points to help San Antonio reach the conference finals for the first time since 2017. The defending champion OKC Thunder await, with Game 1 set for Monday.

After three quarters of play, the Spurs hold a 110-84 edge over the Timberwolves. San Antonio outscores Minnesota 36-23 in the third quarter behind Stephon Castle, who’s pouring in a game-high 30 points on 10-for-14 shooting and 5-for-7 from long range.

Anthony Edwards leads the way for Minnesota with 24 points on 9-for-25 shooting (2-7 3PM, 4-7 FT) in 33 minutes, adding 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals.

The Wolves are shooting 37.3% overall (31-83 FG), and they’ll have 12 more minutes to keep their season alive.

The Pistons were in full force during their 115-94 win over Cleveland in Game 6, tying their series at 3 games apiece. Detroit was dominant in paint scoring (48-26) and bench points (48-19) while holding the Cavs to 13-for-35 shooting inside the paint (37.1%).

Duncan Robinson (14 pts, 4 3PM) was huge off the bench in his return after missing Game 5 with back soreness, and Paul Reed (17 pts on 7-9 FG, 6 reb, 1 blk) and Marcus Sasser (9 pts, game-best +27) fuel a tremendous showing for Detroit’s second unit.

Cade Cunningham (21 pts, 5 3PM, 8 ast) and Jalen Duren (15 pts, 11 reb, 3 blk) star in the victory, and Ausar Thompson’s (10 pts, 9 reb, 4 ast, 4 stl, 1 blk) presence was felt everywhere despite fouling out with 3:56 left in the contest.

James Harden leads Cleveland with 23 points (6-13 FG), 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals, but he tallies a game-high 8 turnovers in 37 minutes. Donovan Mitchell finishes with 18 points on 6-for-20 shooting and a game-worst -25 plus-minus in 37 minutes.

Turnovers have been an issue for both teams through 24 minutes of play. Detroit tallies 11 turnovers resulting in 14 points off for Cleveland, while the Cavs have coughed it up 13 times leading to 17 points for the Pistons.
