Direct Israel-Lebanon Talks Commence in Rome


Here are Tuesday’s updates:

■ At least four Palestinians were killed in Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip, including a 10-year-old boy, and several others were wounded, Palestinian health officials said.

■ The IDF said it killed a Hamas naval commander and three other armed operatives in the Gaza Strip on Monday.

■ Defense Minister Israel Katz asked President Isaac Herzog to expunge the criminal record of Elor Azaria, a former soldier who was convicted of killing an incapacitated Palestinian assailant in 2016.

Israeli and Lebanese negotiators commenced another two-day round of U.S.-mediated talks in Rome, the sixth round of direct negotiations since the cease-fire between Iran, the United States and Israel was declared in April.

Several tankers were reportedly attacked in the Strait of Hormuz, with UKMTO reporting that a ‌tanker was hit ⁠by ⁠a missile, Emirati firm ADNOC L&S saying two of its tankers were hit by projectiles, and U.K.-based firm Stolt-Nielsen saying one of its tankers was also hit by an explosion of an unidentified external device, sparking a fire in its engine room.

■ Iran’s army spokesman said the Strait won’t open with “U.S. aggressions” and war, Iran’s Student News Network reported.

■ Areas of Iran’s Abadan County, Mahshahr and Bushehr city were hit by U.S. projectiles, state media reported, citing a provincial official. Iranian media also reported that explosions were heard in several areas in the country, including Bandar Abbas, Bushehr and Choghadak.

Three people were killed in Iran’s Hormozgan Province in overnight U.S. strikes, Fars News reported.

■ ⁠Iran’s ‌Foreign Ministry ‌condemned Britain’s decision to designate ⁠the Islamic Revolutionary Guard ⁠Corps as a security threat, calling the move “unjustified” and “irresponsible.”

■ The EU Aviation Safety Agency issued new advisory guidelines for the region, saying air ⁠operators should not operate ‌in the airspace of ⁠Bahrain, Kuwait, ‌Qatar and the UAE, as well as in the ‌airspace over ⁠the waters of ‌the Gulf ⁠of Oman.

International ⁠Criminal Court chief ‌prosecutor Karim Khan, who has been ‌accused of sexual misconduct, lost an appeal ⁠to have his interim suspension lifted, the ⁠Bar Standards Board said. Khan’s supporters have ‌suggested that he ⁠is a political target for ‌seeking arrest warrants for Israeli officials over Israel’s conduct in its war in Gaza.
