Google’s new agentic AI can do your chores for you, but there’s a catch

Tech giants NVIDIA and Google Cloud have announced a new partnership centering on a breakthrough called Agentic AI. This is a massive update to how people currently use AI in their day to day lives; while current AI models, like Google Gemini or ChatGPT function primarily as advanced LLMs that predict text, agentic AI moves from talking to “doing as an independent AI agent. This means it can set goals, plan multi-step workflows, and execute tasks, all without continuous human input. Simply put, it can automate your digital chores.

Here’s how you can use this high-level tech to handle your daily to-do list and save yourself hours per week.

Say goodbye to the weekly shop

Online shopping revolutionized the weekly shop, and agentic AI is here to take it one step further. When online shopping, you still have to plan what to eat, manually search for all your items, compare prices, check for out of stock substitutions and pick a delivery slot.

Now, with agentic AI, there could be a world where you provide your agent a goal, e.g: “stock my fridge for a week, based on a vegetarian diet.” An agentic AI can then access retailer APIs, check your past purchase history to find your preferences, save you money by comparing prices, and place the order for a time it knows you’re likely to be home. The day agentic AI can cook for me is when I’ll truly celebrate.

Take control of your finances

If your bills have increased, an agentic bot can be tasked to audit your monthly overheads and cross reference your bank statements with actual usage data. Imagine an AI that can track how many times you opened Netflix and proactively cancel anything below a certain threshold. Another hack for saving you money!

Book up your social calendar

If you have a social life, or simply need to organise a work meeting, you can use agentic AI to set the goal, for example: “get (group chat name) together for tacos on Tuesday.”

Rather than going back and forth in a message thread where everyone confirms their availability individually, Agentic AI can check in with other people’s agentic AIs, source and book a restaurant that works for everyone, and send out a final invite.

Sort through all your work emails

I know I’m not the only one who spends 30 minutes every morning deleting spam, filing receipts and accepting calendar invites. While regular AI can summarise an email, agentic AI can take control and operate your inbox. Imagine a world where it recognises a bill, cross-references your bank statement, and files it in the right tax folder.

Is this the future?

With the announcement and rollout of agentic AI that can think ahead, rather than responding to your manual prompts, the future feels like it’s finally here. Of course, off-handing all our data to an agentic model in the name of convenience may come with its own risks, including vulnerability to hackers, over-automation that erodes basic life skills, and a risk of undeclared sponsorship that prioritize their own ecosystem, e.g: picking Google Pay merchants over the best deals. Will you be using NVIDIA and Google Cloud’s new agentic model when it drops?
