Everything You Need To Know About The Blood of Dawnwalker

Blog | Everything You Need To Know

Rebel Wolves is stepping into the spotlight with a dark fantasy RPG where daylight does not necessarily mean safety. Becoming a vampire might even be the best chance you have of saving the people you love.

As we explored in our look at how The Blood of Dawnwalker is shaping up to be the next must-have action RPG, its human-vampire duality, reactive quests, and technical combat give it plenty of reasons to stand out.

The Blood of Dawnwalker sends players to a plague-stricken corner of 14th-century Europe, then puts a ticking clock and a very sharp set of fangs at the heart of the adventure. From its release date and story to its day-and-night gameplay, time system, editions, PC specs, and latest trailer, here is everything you need to know before Coen begins his fight for Vale Sangora.

The Blood of Dawnwalker Release Date

The Blood of Dawnwalker launches on September 3, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

On PC, the game will be available through Steam, GOG, and Xbox on PC. The Xbox release also supports Xbox Play Anywhere, allowing one digital purchase through Xbox to cover console and PC, and the game is confirmed for Xbox Cloud Gaming.

No Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 version has been officially announced at the time of writing.

The Blood of Dawnwalker Pre-Order Bonus

Players who pre-order The Blood of Dawnwalker will receive the Sangoran Wayfarer’s Armor Set, an outfit bearing the emblem of a nameless travelling smith.

This is an early unlock rather than permanently exclusive equipment, so it can also be earned later in the game.

The Blood of Dawnwalker Editions

Alongside the Standard Edition, several other versions have been officially detailed.

  • The digital Eclipse Edition includes:
  • The Blood of Dawnwalker base game
  • Digital World Compendium
  • Digital Comic Book
  • Digital Soundtrack
  • Sangoran Wayfarer’s Armor Set pre-order bonus, where applicable

The physical Day 1 Edition includes the base game, a SteelBook, a world map, and the pre-order armour set. The limited Collector’s Edition goes further with a 23 cm PureArts Coen figurine, a 60-page hardcover World Compendium, a 33 x 40 cm world map, the SteelBook, and the Eclipse Edition’s digital extras.

The Blood of Dawnwalker Story

The Blood of Dawnwalker takes place in an alternative 14th-century Europe. War is tearing across the continent, and the Black Death is devastating those left behind. Sensing their opportunity, vampires emerge from the shadows, overthrow the old feudal rulers, and claim the freedom and power they have long been denied.

At the centre of the story is Coen, a young man transformed into a Dawnwalker: human by day, vampire by night, and caught between the strengths and weaknesses of both. His family is held by Brencis, the vampire lord ruling Vale Sangora, and Coen has 30 days and 30 nights to save them.

How he uses that time is up to the player. Coen can pursue his family, seek revenge against the vampire who sired him, uncover the valley’s secrets, or build alliances with people whose loyalties may be difficult to read. Rebel Wolves describes the game as a narrative sandbox, with actions and inaction shaping the story, its characters, and its ending.

There is no simple black-and-white morality system keeping score. The choices are intended to sit in shades of grey, leaving players to decide what Coen is willing to do and how much of his humanity is worth trading for the people he loves.

The Blood of Dawnwalker Gameplay

The Blood of Dawnwalker is a single-player, open-world action RPG built in Unreal Engine 5. At the heart of the game is Coen’s dual nature. He is human by day and a vampire by night, with different skills, routes, and dangers in each form.

Human By Day, Vampire By Night

During the day, Coen fights with a sword and magic. He casts spells through runes carved into his body. These powers can be used in combat, defence, and investigation. Burning Blood, for example, damages an enemy over time. Feral Mind can make a target attack those around them.

At night, Coen gains vampiric powers. He can fight with his claws, use heightened senses, and move through the world in new ways. Abilities such as Shadowstep, Clawride, and Planeshift let him cross rooftops and reach places that are closed to his human form.

Those powers come at a price. Coen must manage his Blood Hunger after dark by feeding on humans, animals, or other creatures. Ignore it for too long and he may lose control and attack an NPC. That is one way to make a quiet evening considerably more complicated.

Time Is A Resource

Coen has 30 days and 30 nights to save his family, but there is no real-time countdown. Exploring, fighting, and investigating suspicious ruins will not move the clock forward.

Instead, time passes when you complete quests or choose certain actions and dialogue options. An hourglass icon shows the cost beforehand, so you can decide whether each lead, favour, or detour is worth pursuing.

You cannot help everyone or see everything in one playthrough. This gives each decision weight without forcing you to rush across the map. It also means a second journey through Vale Sangora could take a very different path.

Directional Combat And More Accessible Options

Combat blends close-range swordplay with magic and vampiric powers. Coen can attack and defend from different directions. You will need to read each opponent before you parry, counter, or strike at an opening.

Successful attacks, blocks, and parries build Activation Charges. These can then be spent on active abilities.

Players who want a simpler system can use Omniattack and Omniblock. These options automatically choose the direction of Coen’s attacks and blocks while leaving the pace of each fight in the player’s hands.

Difficulty settings affect more than health and damage. On easier settings, enemy animations can be slowed down. This gives players more time to read and react to attacks, which should help anyone more interested in the story than being repeatedly humbled by a medieval swordsman.

Coen is mainly a close-range fighter. He uses swords, magic, claws, and even his fists, but he cannot wield bows or crossbows. Combat is therefore about staying close, switching quickly between attack and defence, and reacting as each fight changes.

The Blood of Dawnwalker Open World

The adventure takes place in Vale Sangora, a fictional region in the Carpathian Mountains. Its landscapes and cultures draw inspiration from Central and Eastern Europe.

This hand-crafted open world includes forests, plains, swamps, caves, mountains, medieval settlements, and forgotten ruins. It is also home to Svartrau, the valley’s capital city.

Locations can offer different routes and dangers after sunset. Coen’s vampiric abilities also let him reach places that are closed to him during the day.

The full map is visible from the start, but important activities only appear once you discover them. Fast travel is available through the world map. Coen does not have a horse, however, so expect to travel on foot or use his less conventional vampiric abilities.

Vampires are not the valley’s only threat. Vale Sangora is also home to Blood Guards and creatures inspired by folklore, including uriashi, likhos, kobolds, and tatzelwurms.

Humans, monsters, and members of the ruling vampire clique all have a place in this world. Crucially, not everyone Coen meets must become his enemy.
