This Popular Password Manager Is Getting Smarter With Location-Based Suggestions

If you do almost anything online, you need a password manager to help protect your confidential information. And one of the best options on the market is adding a unique new feature, making it easier to find what you need depending on your location.

1Password Now Shows Relevant Items Based on Where You Are

With a recent update, 1Password has added the ability for you to assign a specific location to something stored in your vault. Instead of just a simple password manager, 1Password can be used to store almost anything you can imagine, like a Wi-Fi password away from home, an alarm code for your office, and pretty much anything else.

It’s easy to enable the feature for any new or existing entry. Just select Add a location.

When arriving at a specific location, the item will appear in the home tab of the 1Password smartphone app so you can find it quickly and easily. There is even a map view where you can see what data is tied to a location.

For current 1Password users, you’ll need to make sure to add the Nearby section to your home screen for iOS or Android. Here’s what you’ll need to do:

  1. Open 1Password.
  2. Choose Home and then tap the Customize button.
  3. Scroll down and find Nearby. Select it to add to the home screen. You can also reorder your sections if necessary.
  4. Select Done.
  5. In the Nearby section, you’ll need to select Allow location access.

A Very Handy Feature for the Great Password App

I’ve been a long-time 1Password user and am thrilled to see this new feature. While I mostly use the app for online credentials, it’s also perfect for storing other real-world information.

As I get older, I sometimes forget simple things like a hotel room number or even Wi-Fi login information when away from home. But this new 1Password feature makes that much less of a hassle.

If you don’t have the multi-platform 1Password, I’d highly recommend checking it out. There’s a free, 14-day trial available on the company’s site.

For Apple users who don’t want to pay for a password manager, make sure to take a look at the native Passwords app. There are a number of reasons to like Passwords, like its simplicity and integration with Apple devices.
