This new ultrawide monitor from Dell is a productivity powerhouse

Summary

  • Dell debuted a massive 52-inch 6K monitor at CES.
  • The UltraSharp 52 Thunderbolt Hub Monitor is packed with ports and unique features.
  • Dell also announced a new UltraSharp 32 4K QD-OLED Monitor for creatives.

If you like room to spread out when you’re working, Dell’s got you covered. The company announced what it claims is the world’s first 52-inch 6K monitor today at CES: the UltraSharp 52 Thunderbolt Hub Monitor. The monitor looks amazing, and it packs a ton of useful features to take advantage of the size.

Dell also announced a (slightly) smaller 32-inch 4K monitor geared towards creative professionals.

The UltraSharp 52 Thunderbolt Hub Monitor is designed specifically for productivity, with Dell marketing it as a replacement for multi-monitor setups (an ultrawide offers a more immersive experience). The curved monitor is absolutely massive and features a resolution of 6144 x 2560, with a 120 Hz refresh rate and an ambient light sensor to reduce eye strain.

It’s also packed with ports:

  • 2 HDMI
  • 2 DisplayPort
  • 4 USB Type-A
  • 1 USB Type-A with BC1.2 charging
  • 3 USB-C (data only)
  • 2 USB-C with 27W power charging
  • 1 Thunderbolt 4 (can charge a laptop at up to 140W)
  • 1 RJ45 Ethernet

The monitor has another innovative feature up its sleeve: you can connect two different PCs, and the screen will split to show content from both. Dell is calling this feature Picture-by-Picture, and it’s as cool as it sounds. Built-in tools allow you to control all connected PCs with a single keyboard and mouse. Obviously, not everyone will be able to take advantage of this (or have a need for it), but for those who can, it’s a unique experience.

Gamers beware: this monitor might look tempting, but ultrawides can have drawbacks for gaming. In this case, the sheer size and slightly odd resolution might cause issues.

Dell also unveiled a smaller (but still massive) 32-inch screen at CES, called the UltraSharp 32 4K QD-OLED Monitor. This monitor is geared towards creative tasks where color accuracy is critical, such as photo and video editing. It features an anti-glare screen, a built-in colorimeter, and a variety of color management tools, and is DisplayHDR True Back 500-certified.

The UltraSharp 52 Thunderbolt Hub Monitor is available starting January 6 and costs $2,900. The UltraSharp 32 4K QD-OLED Monitor will be available starting February 24 and will cost $2,600.
