Ending your relationship with a VPN provider shouldn’t be difficult, but some offer better customer service than others. To give you an idea of how simple it should be, here’s how to cancel your NordVPN subscription.
Why Do You Want to Cancel NordVPN?
Having a VPN subscription is a good idea, but if you find it too expensive or want to swap to another provider, it’s time to cancel.
Perhaps you have found a better offer from a competitor, or simply prefer to use VPN sparingly. In this case, using a free VPN is probably more suited to your needs.
NordVPN is one of the top VPN services out there, with a collection of additional features from unblocking Netflix and BitTorrent to double VPN and other privacy enhancements.
But if you want to cancel a NordVPN trial or full subscription, it’s a simple enough process.
How to Cancel a NordVPN Free Trial
Like most of its competitors, NordVPN offers a free 30-day trial. You will have signed up with a credit card or bank debit card, however, or perhaps one of the many other payment options, such as Amazon Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and various others.
This is because, despite it being promoted as a free trial, you still have to pay for the first month. If you choose not to subscribe, you can then request a refund for the first 30 days.
During this time, you get the full benefit of its service, which should be more than enough time to assess whether the VPN is suited to your needs.
If it isn’t, and you wish to end your relationship, here’s how to cancel a NordVPN trial before you get charged:
- Log into your NordVPN account
- On the left-hand pane, click Billing
- Select the Subscriptions tab
- Where the Auto-renewal option is set to ON, click Manage
- In the following screen, click Cancel auto-renewal
There is no confirmation check, but you can re-enable should you change your mind before the end of the billing period.
When you’re done, don’t forget to uninstall the NordVPN app from your phone or computer.
What If You Subscribed Through an App?
If you have subscribed to NordVPN through the Google Play Store, Amazon App Store, or Apple App Store, things are a little different.
In those cases, you’ll need to visit the specific subscription cancelation page.
To cancel a NordVPN subscription in this way:
- Click the corresponding link above
- Click the Cancel a subscription button/option
- Select the app subscription to end (in this case, NordVPN)
- Confirm when prompted
How to Cancel a NordVPN Subscription
As above, if you are planning to cancel an active NordVPN subscription, take a moment to disable recurring payments.
Once you’ve done that, it’s time to open a chat window with the NordVPN support team. In the top-right corner of the website click Help (or go straight to support.nordvpn.com) and click on the speech bubble in the bottom right corner.
When prompted, add your name and email address (use the one registered with your NordVPN account to save time), then input your reason for messaging: “cancel account” or “cancel trial”, for example.
Once you have been passed to a human support assistant, explain that you wish to cancel the subscription.
You may be asked a reason why, but this doesn’t need to be answered – if they press, say you simply changed your mind about using a VPN.
Can You Get Your Money Back?
When it comes to the 30-day free trial, canceling the recurring subscription and ending the trial will return the money you paid to sign up.
With long-term subscriptions, money-back is trickier. If it is within 30 days of the renewal, you should be able to get a refund. Longer than this, and you’ll need to contact the NordVPN customer service team.
